portrait painting.
Assignment 3
Colour Expression “Dramatic Portrait Painting”
Painting a self-portrait does not necessarily have to be done using skin colors. A
portrait can be just as successful using unrealistic colors like yellow, blue, red,
green, etc. Be creative and have fun!
• Choose one of your classmates, which they will be your subject for
this final assignment.
• You have to create a nontraditional portrait using found objects that portray
the characteristic of your product. (In this case your chosen classmate)
• Create a sketch before you start.
• Write a paragraph outlining what choices you will make as artists.
The choices may concern material, technique, style, and specific
subject matter.
• Next, on a cartridge paper (or any interesting canvas), prepare a layout for
your portrait that crops the face in some interesting way. Once you have an
approved layout, draw it on illustration board, and paint, paste; charcoal it
using bold, unrealistic colors.
• You can use as many colors as you want, but try to achieve some aesthetic
harmony in your painting. Be sure to use value to show lights and darks, by
mixing in white and black with your colors.
• Size of the design [ 197 X 320 mm],
leave 2 inches(5cm) border around
your artwork
• Landscape/Portrait
• Paintings in any medium, Collage eg. Free Play, Be creative.
• You can use interesting materials to represent the individual character.
• Mount the creation onto the A3 Size mounting board

Re: portrait painting.
Pris, after all the assignments and assignments that you've done, getting As and other grades, you're still not even a step close to be a designer. You're mind is not working like a designer. Every time you post a thread, I will have to repeat the same old thing.
Where are the preparations that we want to see? Telling us Ruth is your chosen character and that she is easy to paint is not going to work. So why are you painting her? What is so interesting about her? Her characteristics? Her overall look? Do elaborate.
I believe Edwin had also repeated many many times that we won't spoonfeed you. This time, really, if you're not showing us that you've tried to put in some designer thoughts, we're not going to say anything. I'm not sure about Edwin, he is your BF afterall. But I might stay out of this if there is no effort done.
As mentioned, please state how you're going to do up this piece, as mentioned also in the brief. Materials and style. We want to visualise what you're thinking and not guessing it ourselves.
Think before you reply. I don't want to see a reply, "Okay" and nothing else. Your reply to mine is going to state what you're going to do and your thoughts about it.
I apologise for being harsh on this. I am rather bothered when we're helping you do the beatboard and illustration. This is not our work. Instead of doing for you, we're doing it for you. No more last minute handups please.
> Edwin
Brother, I'm sorry again. I have to say this. If I am to be called in to do the last minute work again, I'm afraid I might not accommodate to such request. Please understand brother. However, I'm willing to help if she had done up her own work and research. For your consideration, please.

We have seen your first painting and both feels that improvements can be made. Considering that you are a first timer in portrait, please study the characteristics of Ruth more and try a second painting.

Re: portrait painting.
I'm BACK!!!
> Edwin
Yes, agreed.
> Pris
It's merely a portrait of her and not about her. Do you understand the 'not about her' part? Haha.
Meaning. you drew her, yes. But we don't know about her characteristics? Let me illustrate Edwin for example. I would draw him a watermelon sized head with a very big smile and one line smiling eye. This is to show his happy and cheerful character. Yup. These are the studies that you should be observing as mentioned by Edwin. =)
I'm looking forward to see the new portrait.

Re: portrait painting.
I think I saw the one in Edwin's handphone. So is there a new one which I can have a look?
Getting a B might be a fairly good piece of art. So I'm interested
